 Campus

2022 saw TJU’s vigorous pursuit of innovation, delivering first-class scientific research results and papers. The concerted efforts of TJUers yielded satisfying results: the total funding for science and technology reached a new high of more than 4.2 billion yuan; 25 projects were involved in the National Key Research and Development Program, with 125 projects approved in total; 379 projects were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including 1 project of the Innovative Research Group, 5 projects of the National Outstanding Young Scientists Foundation and 16 projects of the Excellent Young Scientists Foundation; moreover, 4 major and key projects of the National Social Science Foundation were granted. In addition, the commercialization of scientific and research findings exceeded 100 million yuan. Besides, 54 research achievements were awarded the Tianjin Science and Technology Award in 2021, with the total number of awards, the number of Grand Prize and First Prize hitting a record high.

The world’s largest earthquake simulation research facility

Thanks to the national support and TJUers’ efforts, achievements in science and technology made 2022 an incredible year. Breakthroughs in DNA storage technology made it possible to preserve Dunhuang murals for thousands of years, providing guidance for emerging generations of information storage artificial chromosomes. Researchers developed a fully flexible and magnetically levitated circulatory pump that can rotate and pump at high speeds, lighting up the hope of producing flexible artificial hearts. Partnering with eight enterprises, a TJU research team created the carbon dioxide transcritical direct cooling technology, a world-leading one with independent intellectual property rights, providing technical support for the Beijing Winter Olympics to make beautiful ice in short time. Moreover, our devoted researchers worked out artificial super strong silkworm silk, with its tensile strength over 70% higher than the average tenacity of spider silk. New materials were created for omnidirectional light-tracking and adaptive photovoltaics. TJU’s intelligent connected buses stated road test. Civil works of the world’s largest earthquake simulation research facility were smoothly completed and accepted.
